KINK feature: Guilherme Oliveira
Aritst: Guilherme Oliveira
Oporto, Portugal.
[dandy:] Your work in as few words as possible?
[Oliveira:] Ruminative found between the fervency of flesh and soul.
What're your personal kinks?
Body hair, armpits, the mystery in discovering another's body, male essence.
Turn ons?
Complicity definitely is a big turn on. Eagerness that gives you support and trust, the chance to share, lightness, to do and to let be done.
Turn offs?
Can’t give space for excessive ego, lack of empathy, or absence of freedom.
Favorite subject?
Personal experiences shared by others and my own, portraying personal, sensitive lives.
Ideal place to display your work?
I believe that any conservative space is already daring enough to portray the sensible male to male subject. Although, I actually have some favoritism to anything underground, the underdogs, between light and darkness, and there are many reasons behind it.
Favorite non-art pastime?
I am actually a Chef, specialized in Japanese cuisine and sushi. Very nerdy, with games and animations, exercising at least 5 times week. I believe when you cook you are already caring for someone else and it fulfils me, gaming and watching animations keeps this young dreamy spirit very alive and I love to allow me to have that energy around. Exercising is very important to know your body and your limits, to breath, to feel the very ‘now’ moment.
Most memorable project?
Lately, my book ‘ressentido (resentful)’ became something very beautiful, I’m so very proud about it, to reunite beautiful stories inside of other males around the world, share traumas, things we've overcome, positivity and most important, love.
Art crush?
Tom of Finland of course is one of them, very liberating and had such a strong impact on me when I first saw it. Egon Schiele, David Hockney, Gustav Klimt and Manabu Mabe, those has very strong influence on me, through expressions and color construction- and the freedom, but with the wisdom to let it manifest whatever asks to become.
Personal crayon color?
Wet Pubic Brown or Fleshy Bum Red
What is unique about your process?
That's a hard one. I believe mine speaks in different languages, different platforms and ways, not afraid to be cropped or fit inside shapes, flowing in a dreamy landscape.
Why make art?
There are so many things. You have your gut, that can’t be only said, but must be experienced. You must gain life. I feel that if I don’t give birth to it into the world, it will consume me until I release it.
What's next?
There’s more paintings, drawings, poetic writing, and photography too. I’m also producing a small documentary of a very old gay bar in Oporto. Since the city is changing a lot, is important to record what the community had been doing and be history for the future gay kids.
