I have finally recovered from a whirlwind weekend at Market Days Chicago, one of the country's biggest queer events (and interestingly, the midwest's largest street festival, period.) Though I didn't get the chance to venture far from the dandyqueerart.com booth, I did experience the distinctive pleasure of photographing OVER THREE HUNDRED asses of all shapes, colors, and sizes in the very first activation of a long-term photography project I'm developing. The project, called "that ass is a work of art." will be a series of art pieces drawn from a collection of photographs of queer/allied asses i will be taking all over the world, intended to promote body positivity and playfulness, to celebrate queerness and body diversity, and to remind the world that all asses are beautiful in their own way.
The first two pieces in the series are currently in development: one being a photo-collage I am creating, incorporating most of the asses I photographed at the Market Days Chicago weekend (currently available for pre-sale in the dandy shop, with or without "Market Days" commemorative labeling), and the second being an art piece by local queer Chicago artist TotesFerosh, who will be creating a work of art featuring the ass of our contest winner.
The friendly ass pride contest will take place over the next two weeks and is meant merely to be a fun way to promote dandyqueerart.com, show off some of the lovely asses we photographed, and give away some great prizes to those who participated. HOW IT WORKS:
Our friendly ass pride contest will take place MONDAY, AUGUST 16TH to TUESDAY AUGUST 24TH on TWITTER and INSTAGRAM. We've divided the photos from MARKET DAYS CHICAGO WEEKEND into FIVE GROUPS based on when we took the photographs:
A :: Friday Evening
B :: Saturday Afternoon
C :: Saturday Evening
D :: Sunday Afternoon
E :: Sunday Evening (plus some extras from previous sessions)
Contest competitors have already been assigned a group letter and number that will be associated with their ass. No names or faces will be used at any point for identification.*
PROCESS OF ELIMINATION:

:: THREE AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARDS will go to the post with the MOST LIKES/COMMENTS/RETWEETS from the FIRST ROUND [Tallies taken on SUNDAY, AUGUST 22ND at NOON Pacific/3PM Eastern]. Ask your friends to follow us and like/retweet some asses (especially if yours gets posted!)
::All 100 FIRST ROUND asses will receive a SHIRT of their choice from the dandy shop.
:: All 15 FINALISTS and the THREE AUDIENCE CHOICE WINNERS will receive an 11"x17" PRINT of the "that ass is a work of art." photo-collage (available for pre-order now in the dandy shop).
:: FINAL TOP FIVE and the THREE AUDIENCE CHOICE WINNERS will each receive an 8"x8" PRINT of their choice from the dandy collection, and a pair of dandy koozies from the dandy shop.
:: FINAL WINNER will have their ass made into a work of art for the dandy collection by Chicago-based Queer Artist TotesFerosh and will receive THREE 8"x8" PRINTS of the final piece!

SCORING:
:: JUDGES WILL BE USING THE "LUAU" METHOD (a thing i just now made up, that sounds pretty fun), which takes the following elements into consideration:
LONGEVITY :: "i could stare at that ass for days."
UNIQUENESS :: "that ass is one of a kind."
ARTISTRY :: "the presentation of that ass is a work of art."
UMM...WOW :: “i can't properly explain in words why that ass is so engaging.”
:: Scoring will be done privately and is entirely subjective. Exact scores will not be publicized.
:: JUDGES will rank their TOP TEN asses from a single group, and each ass will receive points based on its rank, with FIRST PLACE receiving 10 POINTS and TENTH PLACE receiving ONE POINT.
FIRST ROUND- The THREE highest scoring asses will be presented as the TOP THREE in no particular order and move onto the FINALS ROUND.
FINALS ROUND- The FIVE highest scoring asses will be presented as the TOP FIVE in no particular order.
FINAL WINNER- Top scoring ass from the FINALS ROUND.
JUDGE SELECTION:
:: FIRST ROUND: Three unique JUDGES will be selected for each GROUP
:: FINALS ROUND : Four JUDGES will be selected from among the 15 FIRST ROUND JUDGES, and Patrick McNaughton ("that ass is a work of art.'' project artist, and dandyqueerart.com founder) will act as the FIFTH JUDGE.
:: JUDGES will be selected from various resources to promote a diverse array of tastes in asses- including members of the dandyqueerart.com online community, contest participants, Market Days Chicago attendees, and perhaps even a few random strangers.
:: JUDGES will represent a diverse array of genders, races, sexualities, and creeds from across the LGBTQ+/Allies spectrum.
FIRST ROUND:
:: Every day AUGUST 16TH-20TH (Monday-Friday), dandyqueerart.com will post our TOP 20 ASSES from each group. [Group A- Monday, Group B- Tuesday, etc.]
:: Each ass will be posted ON THE HALF HOUR for 10 HOURS starting at 9AM Pacific/NOON Eastern.
:: JUDGES will privately rank their TOP TEN of the TOP 20 ASSES presented each day, the ranks will be compared, and the highest scoring TOP THREE will become FINALISTS (to be presented in no particular order).
:: WINNERS from each group will be posted TWO DAYS LATER at 830AM Pacific/1130AM Eastern. [Monday winners will be posted Wednesday, Tuesday winners on Thursday, etc.].
FINALS:
:: The 15 FINALISTS will be re-posted over the course of the day on MONDAY, AUGUST 23RD.
:: The TOP FIVE will be posted TUESDAY, AUGUST 24TH at 9AM Pacific/NOON Eastern.
:: The FINAL WINNER will be posted TUESDAY, AUGUST 24TH at NOON Pacific/3PM Eastern on the dandyqueerart.com site.

*The contest will be as anonymous as possible, meaning your name and face will NEVER appear, but you may have some identifying marks (tattoos, hair patterns, obscure tan lines, etc) that might give you away to anyone who has already seen your ass/lower back/etc. Though this information was disclosed on the signed waiver, we may have missed a few folks along the way, so PLEASE LET US KNOW IMMEDIATELY if you would like to be removed from consideration. Everyone's FULL CONSENT is the only way to keep this project fun.
**Participating contestants will receive an email with all of this information prior to the contest start date with these contest rules included. If you do not receive an email by MONDAY, AUGUST 16TH, it means you did not provide us with one, or your writing was not legible. If you have any questions or concerns or did not receive an email from us, please write to artist@dandyqueerart.com BEFORE THE TOP FIVE ARE ANNOUNCED ON TUESDAY AUGUST 24TH. Participants who we have not established email correspondence with by that date will not be able to receive their prizes.
