Your work in five words or less?
Erotic. Dramatic. Detailed. Masculine. Sexy.
What are your personal kinks?
My personal kinks include jockstraps, athletic uniforms and a good pair of faded butt-hugging jeans.
Turn-ons?
I am at my happiest when I’m drawing and creating, traveling, hiking, or catching rays at my pool with an ice-cold beer.
Turn-offs?
My pet peeves include negativity, dishonesty, and arrogance.
Favorite subject?
I really enjoy drawing larger pieces where I can show the intricate details of a person’s face and body. As “Brad Welch,” I focus on the male physique in various states of undress, which I obviously love- but I also love drawing portraits of people of all ages, genders, and ethnicities. I like focusing in on the eyes, which are the windows to the soul. You can follow my portrait work on Instagram: @brechwald_art.
Ideal place to display your work?
I would love to one day start selling or displaying my art in independent restaurants, hotels or B&B’s aimed at the LGBTQ+ community.
Favorite non-art pastime?
Going to movies- sci fi is my fave. Reading suspense or mystery , running, and doing yard work, which my husband appreciates very much.
Art crush?
Definitely the other talented artists on this project. I also admire quite a few amazing LGBTQ+ pencil artists, including David Farquhar, Yang Zhongda, AEIOU_Art, The Boys of Jack, Mark Douglas, Bokeshisan, Juanmi Rodriguez, and Kou Shou. Some artists I really respect who work in other mediums include Ali Franco, Martin Fuhrer, Rene Farias, Gabriel Garbow, Youko Ibata, Adam Jon Moore, and Caducado.
Personal crayon color?
My all-time favorite color would be Caribbean Blue, that gorgeous shade of aquamarine teal. To me, it’s both relaxing and invigorating at the same time.
What is unique about your process?
First, my attention to detail. Second, I put a lot of time and effort into shading. Shadow and light elevate a piece from good to gorgeous.
Why make art?
I didn’t even so much as lift a pencil for two decades, but since I started drawing again in late 2019, I haven’t been able to stop. Drawing is my talent, my gift, my purpose in life. I’ve been slightly overwhelmed by the response to my art. It brings me so much joy and peace.
What’s next?
In addition to creating more erotic drawings of gorgeous men, I’d like to start producing larger pieces on occasion- something that would make a real statement on your wall. I’m also interested in compiling a dozen of my favorite pieces for a 2023 calendar, and I’m looking into the possibility of offering a few drawings as NFTs this year.
